Lisa Larson Laying Cat

Lisa Larson modernistic laying cat figure designed as a part of the Lilla Zoo (Small Zoo) series in 1955 at the Gustavsberg pottery in Sweden. Anton Lang double candleholder of two Children Riding a Fish

Anton Lang pottery glazed earthenware candleholder depicting two children riding a fish. Produced in Oberammergau Germany in the 1920s or 1930s. Anton Lang (1875 - 1938) was a third-generation German studio potter and an actor in the Oberammergau Passion Play. He played the role of Christ in 1900, 1910, and 1922. His son Karl managed the pottery from 1934 until 1975. Karl’s daughter, Barbara Lampe,  took over in 1975 and changed the name of the business to the Barbara Lampe pottery in 1995.

Mari Simmulson (1911-2000) was born to Estonian parents in St. Petersburg, Russia. At the start of the Russian revolution in 1917, the family moved back to Estonia. In 1945, Mari Simmulson began working at Gustavsbergs Porcelain Factory. Mari left Gustavsberg in 1949, taking a position at Upsala-Ekeby. Together with Hjordis Oldfors and Ingrid Atterberg, she completed a trio of influential female designers who set the tone for the company in the 1950s.
